When I was about five years old mum weighed my brother and me on the
Jockey Scales in the local chemist shop (this was back in the 1950s).
Mum told us our weights and then explained that my little brother was
four pounds lighter than me.
I was keen to let mum know I had grasped the point she was making and understood it completely: "So that means I'm four pounds darker than he is."
