Pastor Glyn Barrett told his congregation that he had been invited to Cambridge University to debate the existence of god in front of a group of atheists. He said that the atheist would speak for fifteen minutes but the good pastor would be allowed to speak for only ten minutes:
"The president of the atheistic club; he will stand up and he will share
for fifteen minutes on how there is no god. And then we're gonna give
you ten minutes to prove to us that there is a god."
As soon as he said that I knew he was telling lies for Jesus. There is no way a place like Cambridge University would conduct a debate under such unfair conditions.
Then (said the lying pastor) the atheist walked on stage, spitting and frothing at the mouth, and hurling insults at poor old Pastor Barrett:
"And the lead atheist; he gets up and he's preaching, and he's
spitting, and he's frothing at the mouth, and he's eloquent, and he's
brilliant: 'How can any rational person believe that there is a god? You
gotta be stupid to believe there is a god'."
But the atheists didn't stop there said Pastor Barrett. He said they booed and hissed as he approached the stage:
"And now we're gonna get Glyn Barrett and he's gonna come up and tell us why there is a god ... So I get up on stage and there's boos and hisses and all these sorts of things."
By now every atheist in the world knew that Pastor Glyn Barrett's claims were complete and utter bullshit. Take a look at any formal debate between atheists and Christians - especially those held at Universities - and you will never, ever, see anyone behaving as badly as Pastor Glyn Barrett says the Cambridge atheists did.
So now the atheists began leaving comments on Pastor Glyn Barrett's Facebook page, asking him to prove that there really was a debate at Cambridge University and that the atheist really did behave so badly.
Pastor Glyn Barrett did what so many Christian preachers do in situations like this: He deleted all the adverse comments and hoped to Christ the publicity would soon die down.
But it was too late. All across the Internet people were discussing the lies told by Pastor Glyn Barrett until it reached a point where he felt he had to try and rectify the situation. He went back to his Facebook page and wrote:
"It was not my intention for it to come across that the debate forum was
Cambridge. As you know, sometimes in public speaking, when you are in a
rush, you don't always articulate things in the best manner."
But it was too little too late. The cat was out of the bag. Pastor Glyn Barrett had told lies to his gullible congregation and he had been caught out.
And since there was nothing he could do to save himself, he casually set about destroying the evidence. He deleted the video; deleted his own explanation; deleted all the adverse comments, and apparently started sulking. (Three days later and there has been no new activity on his Facebook page.)
But I downloaded the video for safe-keeping and you can see it below. It's something I do whenever I hear a preacher telling lies or talking nonsense. I know that if they get any adverse publicity they will quickly destroy the evidence by deleting the video - whereupon I immediately load it back up again! Keeps them on their toes.
Update:
Pastor Glynn Barrett has created several sock puppets and uses them to bignote himself and attack his opponents. All the details here:
